Occupational First Aid Level 3

Occupational first aid level 3 courses are the most comprehensive, detailed and lengthy first aid and CPR courses available through WorkSafe BC. This course is a 72 hour course that takes at least 2 weeks to complete. Providers of the course follow strict guidelines and standards provided through the WorkSafe BC program.

Occupational first aid level 3 programs teach candidates a variety of first aid and CPR skills. First aid components in this course include circulatory emergencies such as heart attacks, strokes, angina and respiratory emergencies such as anaphylaxis, aspiration, hyperventilation and asthma. Candidates will learn to recognize and treat internal bleeding, strains, sprains, spinal injuries and other broken and fractured bones.

Candidates in this course will learn CPR techniques that are recommended via the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR). This authoritative group on CPR promotes the highest standards in CPR that are followed in the occupational first aid program. Candidates will learn the latest techniques for rescuing unconscious breathing and non breathing victims. Candidates will learn also learn techniques to treat victims with obstructed airways that are conscious or unconscious. Occupational first aid courses teach students to use automated external defibrillators which drastically increase the chances of survival for victims of cardiac arrest. With the combination of comprehensive first aid training and up-to-date CPR knowledge candidates will be prepared for almost any emergency. Candidates with OFA level 3 training can play a key role in the chain of survival for victims of sudden medical emergencies.

Candidates enrolled in this course will receive training in the administrative responsibilities after an emergency. This is a key component of occupational first aid training as WorkSafe BC has strict requirements on administrative responsibilities.

Occupational first aid level 3 has a refresher course for candidates requiring re-certification. This course is a 35 hour course that is drastically short and cheaper than re-taking the original course. Whether it is through a full course or a refresher course candidates will receive a 3 year certificate once they successfully complete the skills examination and the knowledge test.
